“Yes” – in response to someone’s question, “I am back from my much-needed vacation and so ready to get back in the saddle.”
My week away, complete with my daily elliptical trainer, swim time (all the while gleaming fascinating insight from Rich), & blissful alone time at the spa, got me thinking about what’s real. Accepting what you can’t change and changing what you can’t accept. About self-honesty, accountability and respectfulness.
“Jeez JZ, what the heck does this sudden insight and determination to change your life have to do with fashion” you say?
Bear with me; I am almost there – me and my “hat in hand” way of doing things…
One of my greatest joys about being given the opportunity to travel this amazing country of ours, styling & hosting fashion events, are the real women I meet. Each and every one of them is a lesson in style. Real style. Not the models – no offense meant but they are well trained in the game of style. I mean the real women. You know who you are.
I find you standing next to me 1-2 days prior to the actual fashion show – the days I am pulling together then editing those fashions about which I will eventually be commentating. You, eyeing me carefully as I wander the entire store looking for that “exact” accessory or shoe. You, yearning for the “inside” scoop as you rifle through my racks of potential looks, daring to ask (as I am talking out loud to myself, my model comp cards & the clothes on the rolling racks) “why did you choose that color, style, neckline? “ Could you take me with you?” “Could you give me your opinion about this…?” You. You have become my inspiration; my platform for real beauty and honesty.
Take a close look at two of my models from a recent show I was asked to style/host for Macy’s.
The same two-piece suit worn successfully on two equally beautiful women; one a “real” customer, the other, a pro model. One Petite, the other, oh, about 5’9″. One an elegant brunette, the other, a stunning red-head. How could that be? Glad you asked.
I stand firm that the secret to success for both women is the suit’s contrasting colors and trim. The sleeveless jacket’s clean lines give it a tailored look while a portrait collar neckline frames the face, and removable jeweled accent adds a fresh feel. The skirt’s anchor color, waist-accenting belt, & knee-skimming length (above or below – your choice) is polished from top to hem!
You see? It’s all in making the right choice, Baby. Accepting yourself & making it work (Oh God, now I sound like Tim.) Change is hard, but if you look big picture you will see what I do; a real, honest, worthwhile investment. A testament to the belief that every real woman has the right, whatever her body shape or size to feel happy about her true self!
The fine art of keeping it real
This is beauty…this is Real!
p.s. You thought I forgot, didn’t you? Not a chance! What’s your angle? Would you wear a 2-piece suit? Where to? With or without the belt? Above or below the knee? With or without hose? Open toe sandal or pump? What color? Show me the pix… submit them to me, via email & I’ll post both pix and comments (with your permission, of course.)
Happy to be back. Sing it Gene! Back in the Saddle Again
